Who is Chiron

Who is this Chiron chap?

Astronomically speaking
Chiron was discovered on November 1, 1977. At first the astronomers thought it was a planet, then they thought it was an asteroid, then they thought it was a planetoid and when it grew a tail they realized it was a comet. Chiron orbits between Saturn and Uranus and it touches both Saturns' and Uranus' orbit paths.

Mythologically speaking
Chiron's birth wasn't a happy one. The story goes that a sea nymph named Phylria caught the eye of the very interested and very married god, Saturn. Trying to avoid Saturn, Phylria shape shifted into the form of a horse. Unfortunately for her, Saturn caught her, violated her and she gave birth to Chiron, a centaur who was half man and half horse. (Remember, this was definitely pre-Roe vs. Wade.) Saturn went back to his wife (some things never change...) and Phylria abandoned poor Chiron.

After being abandoned by both his parents Chiron could have gotten in trouble with the neighborhood bad boys but instead he was raised by the god Apollo, who taught him the art of prophecy. Chiron was known to be a great astrologer, shaman, and healer. He had the gift to see each person's special skills and talents and then help that person integrate those skills into full consciousness. He trained the best of the best including some of the likes of Achilles, Hercules, Jason, and Orpheus.

What's this about a Bridge?

According to astrology Chiron is the bridge between Saturn, the last planet we can see with the naked eye, and the outer planets, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Uranus represents intuition, Neptune represents inspiration and Pluto represents transformation. Chiron's purpose is to bridge the gap between reality and intuition, inspiration and transformation.
